Matches

Playing in friendly and competitive matches is the best way to improve your tennis skills and get the most out of the sport.  We encourage all match players to compete on a fair and friendly basis, and are of the firm belief that although winning matters, taking part is most important.  Gaining match experience is important for the progression of juniors and seniors alike, and although we may never reach the heights of Federer, Nadal and Murray, we’d like to think we could give them a run for their money given half the chance!

There are several ways members can play in matches:

  • Oxfordshire LTA Doubles Leagues - competitive tennis against local clubs.
  • Cholsey and Portcullis Floodlit Winter Leagues - weekday evening matches.
  • Benson Tennis Club’s Singles Box League - see the link on the left for more details.
  • Benson Tennis Club's American Doubles Tournaments - run on ad hoc evenings throughout the summer.
  • LTA Road to Wimbledon for U14 Juniors - each spring the U14s can participate in the event to compete for the chance to play on the hallowed turf of all the All England Club.  Any junior members who wish to play in matches should contact Liz Bowles on liz_btc@ yahoo.co.uk.

In the 2011/12 Winter season Benson Seniors have four men's teams and two ladies teams teams competing in the Oxfordshire/Thames Valley LTA Leagues, one team in the Cholsey floodlit and two teams in the Portcullis floodlit leagues.  Our Juniors are represented in four leagues. Matches in the main leagues are normally played on weekend afternoons, and the Winter Floodlit Leagues based in Cholsey and Wallingford (Portcullis) are played on mid-week evenings.  Details of all the match fixtures, results and league table positions can be seen by clicking on the left-hand links.
